Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, has suffered a huge setback as the team of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has pulled out of his campaign.
Rising from their stormy meeting in Port Harcourt early Wednesday morning, members of the team vowed not to participate in Atiku’s campaign activities pending the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Atiku had insisted that nothing could be done, “Outside our constitution except if it is amended. We cannot do anything unless the laws are amended. Ayu must go through our constitution, rules, regulations, and our practice. Otherwise, we cannot give the kind of leadership Nigerians want. It is possible, it is achievable, we have done it before and we have started doing it again.”

Earlier, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, declared that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, failed to use its internal mechanism to resolve the crisis rocking the party.
He said that ignoring the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his team poses a great danger for the party. Ortom stated this during the party stakeholders meeting held at the new banquet hall of government house, Makurdi.
The governor insisted that the national leadership of the party should address the injustices meted out to Wike and other members of the party; adding that any attempt to ignore the Rivers State governor or anyone of the team, may spell doom for the party.
