Following the developmental strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, thousands are abandoning their various political parties to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the ruling party in Anambra State.
Few days ago, over 100 persons from Anambra West LGA declared their membership and joined the APGA. Some of the notable personalities include Chief Anthony Nwabunwanne, Hon. Almad Attah, Barr. Ikechukwu Chukwudebeli, Chief Alloy Ofodile, Chief Augustine Eziolise, amongst others.
The occasion was during the tour of the newly constructed Umueze- Nmiata Anam- Nzam road by the State Chairman of APGA, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye and other stakeholders.
Giving reasons for their decision to join APGA, many of them said they were impressed with the developmental strides of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo that are touching every nook and cranny of the state including Anambra West LGA.
They said their decision was based on the need to give more support to Governor Soludo who had within just two years provided the kind of good governance needed for the development of the state in general and Anambra West LGA in particular.
They aligned with the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and community Affairs, Chief .Tonycollins Nwabunwanne who recounted several ongoing projects and initiatives
being undertaken by the Solution Governor. They include a general hospital, free education, free antenatal and delivery,
construction of culverts and palliative work along Umueze Anam, Oroma Etiti, Nzam-Ibaji Road among others.
Personally on his part, Barr. Chukwudebelu who was the PDP candidate for the 2023 House of Assembly election, explained: “I was the Anambra State Vice Chairman (North) of the PDP prior to my defection yesterday.
“I have no problem whatsoever with the PDP. My decision to join APGA was borne out of my sincere accessement of Mr. Governor, Prof. C.C. Soludo’s giant strides, infrastructural developments, especially in my dear Anambra State.
“The decision to join APGA was also in response to my people’s request to serve them through the platform of a political party that has been bringing massive development to us” he said.
The massive movement into APGA is not limited to Anambra West. In Ihiala LGA, chieftains of Labour Party (LP), Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) collapsed into APGA.
They were lead by their leaders like Hon. Nonso Alisigwe, former stakeholder of the PDP; Chief Ceaser Sam Obidile, former major stakeholder of the Labour Party; Mr. Ugochukwu Ejezie, former major stalwart of the YPP; Chief Hon. Odera Ilozulike, former major stakeholder of the PDP.
However, a political analyst speculated other possible reasons many people are decamping to APGA. According to him, “the resolution of some legal issues within APGA may have created an impression of a more stable party, attracting defectors.
“Ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, politicians may be seeking stronger platforms, and APGA’s fortunes in the last FCT council election may have made it an attractive option.
“Crises and factionalization in other parties may be driving politicians to seek alternative platforms like APGA.
“The new Electoral Act 2022, may have created an environment where APGA is seen as a more viable option for some politicians.”
Overall, the visionary and focused leadership of Governor Soludo in addition to his proven track records as confirmed by several awards, appear to be the major motivation to join the party.
