The five southwest governors, yesterday met in Lagos State to discuss issues that will favour the zone.
Announcing the details of their discussions on his X, Governor Seyi Makinde stated, “I was in Lagos yesterday for a meeting with my brother governors from the South West.
“At the meeting, we paid tribute to the former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who led the forum until his passing. We remain grateful for his contributions to our region’s development.
“We used the opportunity to welcome the new governor of Ondo State, HE @LuckyAiyedatiwa, and elected Governor @jidesanwoolu as the new Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum”.
He announced that the forum further resolved to collaborate more on food security, while restating their support for state policing and commended their regional security outfit, Amotekun.
“We also commended the members of the House of Representatives for the progress made on the South West Development Commission Bill and urged the Senate to swiftly pass the bill”, he stated.
“In addition, we affirmed our support for ongoing negotiations on minimum wage and emphasised that the resolution should reflect fiscal federalism.”
According to him, other notable decisions reached included a plan to strengthen the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission by appointing someone from each State to work with the commission.
“We also condemned the illegal actions of groups agitating for a separate Yoruba nation.”
