President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo at the Presidential Villa, with both leaders underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to advance Nigeria’s democratic and economic transformation.

The meeting between the two longtime associates, whose friendship spans over two decades, centred on the administration’s ongoing reform agenda and strategies to address the country’s security challenges.

In a statement posted on his official X account, President Tinubu described the discussions as focusing on “bold reforms underway” and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in the government’s policy direction. The president stressed the need for “staying the course” on current initiatives while addressing insecurity through both security operations and youth engagement programs.

“We discussed the bold reforms underway, the need to stay the course, and the importance of tackling insecurity through both decisive action and inclusive opportunities for our teeming youth,” Tinubu stated.

The president highlighted his administration’s commitment to working with state governments that demonstrate serious dedication to human, social, and economic development, positioning federal-state cooperation as crucial to national progress.

“Our administration will continue to partner with every state that is serious about human, social, and economic development because Nigeria’s progress is strongest when we work together,” the president said.

Governor Soludo, who leads the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-controlled Anambra State, has previously been vocal about various national issues including economic policies and security challenges in the Southeast region.

The meeting comes amid ongoing discussions about the federal government’s economic reforms and efforts to address security concerns across various regions of the country. Both leaders emphasized their shared progressive ideology as a foundation for collaboration.

President Tinubu concluded his statement by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to Nigeria’s development, stating they would “continue to take a bet on our dear country, Nigeria, to ensure sustainable and shared prosperity for the future.”

The Aso Villa meeting represents part of the president’s broader engagement with state governors across party lines as his administration seeks to build consensus around key policy initiatives.
