In a significant celebration marking his three-year anniversary in office, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, officially inaugurated the 10.8-kilometer Nkwo Oraifite to Nkwo Nnewi Road, also known as Agba Ụzọ Ịnọ.
This vital road will enhance connectivity, linking the Owerri expressway through Nkwo Oraifite to Nkwo Nnewi, and is set to alleviate transportation challenges in the region.
The Governor also flagged off the construction of the 5.8-kilometer Orafite Civic Center to Onitsha express road, which had been plagued by severe erosion that reached widths of 10 meters and depths of 22 meters.
The state’s swift intervention and commitment to the project have already initiated effective remedial measures.
Governor Soludo emphasized the strategic importance of these roads, stating they would provide long-term solutions to the flooding and erosion crises that have affected the communities for years.
The Governor urged the contractor overseeing the projects to ensure quality work and timely completion, noting that his administration has already awarded contracts for 750 kilometers of road construction, with over 420 kilometers completed and a monthly progress rate of 12 kilometers.
Among other things, the Governor expressed optimism that the people will keep supporting his administration to deliver more values.
Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, the Commissioner for Works, highlighted the severe impact of erosion on local residents, indicating that many community members had been displaced prior to the Governor’s decisive action.
During the launch at the Orafite Civic Center, a prominent community leader Sir Emeka Offor praised Governor Soludo’s efforts, expressing unwavering support as a friend and ally, and encouraging local citizens to rally behind the Governor’s initiatives.
Community leaders, including Mayor Chimezie Obi of Ekwusigo Local Government Area and President General of Orafite, Sir Vin Dike, echoed this sentiment. They acknowledged Governor Soludo’s initiative in constructing six roads within the local government area, asserting that his achievements are unprecedented in Anambra’s history and underscoring their commitment to ensuring his re-election for a second term.
As these developments unfold, the people of Anambra State are optimistic about the positive impact on their communities and the sustained efforts to enhance infrastructure and economic growth across the region.
