Thousands of supporters gathered at Obosi Township Stadium on Monday to endorse Governor Charles Soludo and his deputy for a second term ahead of Anambra State’s November governorship election.
The massive demonstration of support in Idemili North Local Government Area saw enthusiastic crowds welcome the governor and his entourage, reinforcing their commitment to Soludo’s “Solution Agenda”. The rally represents the latest in a series of endorsement events across the state as the November 8 election approaches.
Speaking to the jubilant crowd, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the backing, describing it as confirmation that “he who governs well will govern again”. Accompanied by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim and other senior state officials, Soludo outlined his administration’s achievements whilst promising greater developments in a potential second term.
The governor highlighted completed and ongoing infrastructure projects across all local government areas, telling supporters they had witnessed only “the tip of the iceberg” of planned democratic dividends for Anambra residents. He specifically referenced upcoming mega projects including development around the Second Niger Bridge axis and the planned Awka 2.2 city development.
“A new Anambra will emerge around the Second Niger Bridge axis. Awka 2.2—a new brand city—is emerging, alongside Anambra’s new industrial city, currently under design,” Soludo told the crowd. “Anambra will become a destination for all—to invest, rest, have fun, and live. We are the Light of the Nation.”
The governor praised Obosi as “a land of great people”, citing prominent figures including former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku, whom he described as “Africa’s number one statesman”. He urged supporters to mobilise voters door-to-door for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming election.
Prior to the main rally, Soludo was received at the palace of Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, who alongside other traditional leaders offered prayers for the governor’s electoral success. The visit included blessings from the council of elders and local monarchs.
The governor also inspected the historic Obosi Town Hall following a recent incident, promising to establish an investigative committee and ensure full reconstruction of any damage. “A committee has been set up to investigate the matter and ensure that reforms are implemented to prevent a recurrence,” he stated.
The endorsement event featured significant financial backing, with Obosi Development Union President-General, Barrister Chimezie Obi presenting a cheque for 50 million naira to support the governor’s campaign. Additional gifts included a portrait of the governor and his wife from local youth groups, presentations from women’s organisations, and a cow from the traditional ruler of Obosi.
The rally underscores APGA’s dominance in Anambra State politics, with Soludo telling supporters that “Anambra has only one party, and that party is APGA”. The governor has positioned continuity of his current policies as central to his re-election campaign, promising expanded infrastructure development and economic growth.
With the November 8 governorship election approaching, the Obosi endorsement represents a significant show of grassroots support for the incumbent administration in a key local government area of the state.
