The Transition Committee chairman, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, Hon. (Mrs.) Amaka Obi and her team, initiated a compassionate free medical outreach for the resilient residents of her constituency.
Explaining the essence of the initiative held at the council’s secretariat, she said: “The outreach is aimed at alleviating the burdens of illness, particularly among the elderly and the less fortunate in the community.
“Driven by a deep-seated commitment to improve lives, our primary objective was to make healthcare accessible to all, irrespective of financial constraints. Initially intending to assist 200 individuals, the response exceeded our expectations, with scores of people seeking aid for various ailments.
“Screening encompassed a range of conditions including skin disorders, respiratory infections, eye ailments, and provision of eyeglasses, alongside assessments for tuberculosis, hepatitis, and diabetes. Complimentary medications were dispensed to participants, while those with severe cases received follow-up visits to ensure continued care, all at no expense to them.
“It’s crucial to underscore the significance of such initiatives, particularly for the most vulnerable segments of society. Free medical outreach not only addresses immediate health needs but also underscores the principle of equity, ensuring that even the poorest among us receive the care and dignity they deserve. In doing so, we not only heal bodies but also nurture the fabric of our community, fostering resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.”
Hon. (Mrs) Obi’ initiative aligns properly with the Solution agenda; which include resolute commitment to the pillars of security, law and order, infrastructure and economic rejuvenation, human capital development, governance reforms, and the fostering of a sustainable environment.
