Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has commended soldiers and other security forces battling criminals in the State.

The Governor who led the celebrations of the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day, honouring fallen heroes and praising the service of military personnel, reasserted that despite the odds, Nigeria remains a black power in the world.

The Governor during the Wreath Laying event held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, also delivered a heartfelt speech acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces as well as the importance of community vigilance in maintaining security.

The Governor prayed for the souls of fallen soldiers. He expressed gratitude for the dedication of those still serving and emphasized the dual purpose of the day which according him is both – remembering the departed and celebrating the living.

The Governor highlighted the significant contribution of the Armed Forces to maintaining national territorial integrity, engaging in peacekeeping missions, and fighting for the nation’s unity during the civil war.

He specifically commended the Armed Forces personnel currently serving in Anambra State, recognizing their crucial role in battling criminal elements and restoring peace to the state.

The Governor credited their combined efforts with creating a safer environment, allowing for a peaceful Christmas season with mass returns to communities previously under siege.

While praising the Armed Forces for their doggedness, Governor Soludo also emphasized the role of citizens in ensuring security and encouraged everyone to participate in the “if you see something, say something” programme as well as providing intelligence on criminal activities.

He stressed the importance of responsible citizenship and obedience to the law, highlighting the detrimental effects of selective adherence to laws and pledged support for the Armed Forces and families of the fallen heroes.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to providing the necessary resources for maintaining security and established law and order as the foundation for societal progress.

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, who spoke to the media also commended the Armed Forces for their efforts in restoring peace to Anambra State and assured Governor Soludo of the State Assembly’s commitment in enacting laws that will help improve security, law, and order in the state.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Chief Judg of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Barr. Joachin Anaeto, Members of the Anambra State Executive Council and Legislature, Service Commanders, Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General, Members of Anambra State Association of Town Unions among others.
