The senator representing Anambra North Senatorial district, Dr. Tony Nwoye has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint extra ministers from the Southeast zone.
Nwoye insisted that it is a constitutional requirement to appoint ministers fairly across board, without favouring a particular zone against the other. He said the President could chose anybody of his choice from the zone, which is his prerogative but must ensure the balance as contained in the Federal Character Act.
Earlier, Nwoye and other 14 senators from the Southeast moved a motion to that effect. But it was stood down by the senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. Akpabio promised to take up the matter with President Tinubu.
Meanwhile, Nwoye at an interview on Channels TV, urged Senator Akpabio to live up to his promise to ensure the balance is effected before President Tinubu assigns portfolio to the ministers.
