Transition Committee chairman, Onitsha North LGA, Anambra State, Hon. Onochie Ozoma has banned scavengers from tearing refuse bags and buckets in the area.
Ozoma, popularly known as Chief Servant announced that there will be stiffer penalties for anyone who disobeys the prohibition.
He noted in a press statement: “The general public is alerted that henceforth, tearing of refuse bags, ransacking of refuse buckets, etc, at litter points is prohibited.
“It has come to the attention of the Council that these scavengers go to extent of ripping the Bucket Doors from under, inorder to have access to the underlying contents.
“Henceforth, scavengers are advised to stay away from all litter points and buckets or face arrest and prosecution.
“They are also advised to go to the many gully erosion dumpsites in and around Onitsha for their scavenging activities.”
