In a historic moment for the Igbo people, the newly elected executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Chief Dr. Jackson N. E Omenazu from Rivers State, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting the interests of the Igbo people worldwide. The executive’s demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has sent a strong message about the organization’s stance on issues affecting the Igbo people.

In his inaugural speech, Chief Omenazu emphasized the significance of the election, stating that it marked a pivotal moment in the history of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo people as a whole. He noted that the selection of an indigenous Igbo from Rivers State as President General was a bold declaration of the organization’s commitment to promoting the interests of the Igbo people.

The Igbo people in Rivers State have long been marginalized and excluded from key positions in Ohanaeze Ndigbo. However, with the election of Chief Omenazu, they have finally gained representation at the highest level. This development is seen as a significant step towards promoting unity and inclusivity among the Igbo people.

The newly elected executive has also pledged to tackle critical issues affecting the Southeast, including insecurity, economic development, and social justice. The organization has called for the demilitarization of the Southeast and the dismantling of unnecessary checkpoints that stifle movement and engender fear.

In addition, the executive has demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu, whose plight has become emblematic of the Igbo people’s quest for justice and self-determination. The organization has also called for the restructuring of Nigeria, emphasizing the need for a Sovereign National Conference to usher in a new Constitution that reflects the aspirations and identities of all Nigerian ethnic groups.

As the newly elected executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo begins its tenure, it is clear that the organization is committed to promoting the interests of the Igbo people worldwide. With its bold demands and commitment to unity and inclusivity, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of the Igbo people.
