Contrary to the viral video circulating online alleging that the 2.3 kilometres Ochanja road was washed off, work has reached advanced stage on the location.

Government of Anambra State assured that the project will be completed in a record time.

The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma who gave the assurance while speaking with journalists on the scene, following the viral video showcasing washed-off portions of the road, stressed that the road is still under construction.

The Works Commissioner, who expressed shock over the viral video, explained that the road was not yet inaugurated by the state government as earlier reported by the trending online reports.

Engr. Okoma emphasized that the contractor worked on Sunday and only about one foot from where he stopped was washed as a result of the downpour and blocked drainages along the road.

The Commissioner attributed the viral report to have been orchestrated by mischief makers who are bent on truncating the efforts of the state government of making the state a liveable and prosperous homeland .

For the Head of the contracting firm, Mr Mark Tu, it is a huge disappointment that someone took time to record such viral video, assuring that his firm has a good track record in the state and was committed to delivering quality road that would stand the test of time.

While speaking on the challenges encountered while constructing the road, Mr Tuu appealed to residents and traders to stop dumping refuse into drainage channels, regretting that the washed portions were as a result of the blocked drainages.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman, Fegge Landlords Association, Chief Obinwanne Okwudili lauded the efforts of the state government in constructing roads in the area, saying that the alleged failed portions of the road was still under construction.

Some traders and residents interviewed, lauded the state government for the construction, expressing satisfaction with the quality of the already asphalted 1.7km road, adding that the failed portion was as a result of blocked drainages before the heavy downpour.
