The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, this Friday, dismissed the appeal filed by Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, challenging the election of Chief Peter Aniekwe (Macpee), saying the appeal was filed out of time.
The Court consequently affirmed Hon. Aniekwe, who had since been sworn-in, as the duly elected member to represent Anambra East and West Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers.
The three-member panel held that the amendment of Notice of Appeal filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Arthur Obi Okafor, who represented Obidigwe was filed out of time and dismissed the appeal, accordingly.
Earlier, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Macpee as the authentic winner of the February 25 House of Representatives election but Obidigwe disagreed and went to challenge it at the Tribunal. Again, Macpee trounced him and he went to the Appeal Court.
Since the declaration, Anambra East/West constituents, have been jubilating and sending congratulatory messages to Chief Aniekwe.
A concerned Anambra East/West indigene told Multichannels247 newspaper that he was particularly worried about what would happen to the Bill for the renovation of Otuocha-Ibaji-Lokoja-Abuja Federal road, initiated by Macpee, if he had been removed. He urged Obidigwe and his supporters to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and join forces with Macpee for the good of the area.
