The Constituents of Anambra East/West Federal Constituency are today awaiting earnestly with bated breath, the judgment of the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos on the election matter between Chief Peter Macpee Aniekwe and Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe.
While the supporters of Macpee pray and hope that the appellate court will uphold the judgment of the tribunal in favour of Macpee, like Senator Tony Nwoye’s case his Labour Party counterpart, those rooting for Obidigwe wish the court will see reasons in their appeal.
The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Macpee as authentic winner of the February 25 House of Representatives election but Obidigwe disagreed and went to challege it at the Tribunal. Again, Macpee trounced him and he went to the Appeal Court.
Yesterday, the same Court of Appeal affirmed the election of Sen. (Dr) Tony Nwoye as the duly elected Senator for Anambra North Senatorial District. The three-member panel held that the appeals against the lawmaker lacked merit.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had, on February 25, declared tDr Tony Nwoye as the winner to represent Anambra North at the Senate. Dissatisfied with the declaration, Mrs Stella Oduah and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged the election of Dr. Nwoye at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka. The Tribunal, however, dismissed the two petitions.
Not still satisfied with the judgments of the tribunal, Mrs Stella Oduah and PDP lodged appeals before the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
Delivering the judgment, the Court of Appeal ruled that the appellants’ appeal lacked merit and dismissed same while affirming Dr Nwoye as the elected Senator for Anambra North Senatorial district.
