Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections have flooded Internally Displaced Persons camps in Anambra State with monetary and material gifts.
The candidates who made the donations are Messrs Peter Obi, Tony Nwoye, Peter Aniekwe and Dr. Festus Chukwuemeka vying for presidential, Anambra North Senatorial, Anambra East/West House of Representatives and Anambra West Constituency House of Assembly seats, respectively, said it is to cushion the challenges faced by people displaced by flood in Anambra State.
According to the donors, the challenges faced by the people are enormous and the donations were their own way of showing the people that they care.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, while visiting the flood-ravaged areas, entered boats, exchanging views with the affected and interacting/mingling freely with them in the osmosis of mutual love.
“He did not have to slur his words as if his uvula is sickly nor forget what he was there to do “dementially”. This is presidential – one’s mind being as mettlesome and resilient as one’s body” an observer noted.
“How many presidential candidates can move with such agility? How many are healthy enough to enter boats unaided? Governance is optimised when a healthy body houses a healthy mind. We need a healthy president, one with the capacity to visit troubled areas of the country for first hand information and not one who will be constrained to live half of his Presidency in foreign hospitals.”
On his part, Peter Aniekwe donated huge food items. He also delivered the money pledged by Mr. Obi to the flood victims. Also, Dr. Chukwuemeka donated malaria, typhoid and other environmental diseases drugs to the victims.
Collectively, the observers said, “We must not mock the sick or the elderly, but we must tell ourselves the plain truth.”
