The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a 10-day Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for Anambra State, scheduled to run from July 8-17, 2025, across all 326 wards in the state.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the announcement Thursday during the Commission’s Second Quarterly Consultative Meeting with Political Parties in Abuja, as part of preparations for the state’s November 8 governorship election.

The registration exercise will run daily, including weekends, to maximize participation ahead of the crucial poll.

Prof. Yakubu commended Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for the improved security situation in the state, which he said enhances prospects for credible elections. He contrasted the current peaceful climate with the violence-ridden 2021 election period when INEC facilities were attacked, including the Commission’s headquarters in Awka.

“The current peace in Anambra enhances prospects for credible polls,” Yakubu said, urging Soludo to sustain the security gains.

The Commission also announced that nationwide online pre-registration will resume August 18, 2025, with physical registration starting August 25 across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, INEC scheduled by-elections for 16 constituencies across 12 states for August 16, covering 3.5 million voters in 356 wards and 7,000 polling units. Over 30,000 personnel will be deployed for the exercise. However, elections will not hold in Khana II (Rivers) and Talata Mafara South (Zamfara) due to security and legal issues.

Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who attended the meeting, reaffirmed his party’s commitment to peaceful campaigns and praised Soludo’s leadership.

Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairman Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle described Anambra’s governorship election as “a major test of INEC’s technological capacity.”

The meeting concluded with stakeholders pledging support for credible elections that reflect the people’s will.
