It was a sunny Thursday in the picturesque town of Umueri, Anambra State. The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as the community prepared for the traditional marriage ceremony of Igwe of Umueri’s daughter.
The ceremony, known as “Igba Nkwu,” was a colorful and elaborate affair that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Umueri people. The event was attended by dignitaries from across the state, including traditional rulers, politicians, and business leaders.
As the guests began to arrive, the sound of traditional music filled the air, and the aroma of delicious local cuisine wafted through the crowd. The bride, looked stunning in her traditional attire, adorned with intricate beads and ornaments.
The ceremony began with the traditional knocking on the door, where the groom’s family presented gifts to the bride’s family. This was followed by the payment of the bride price, which was received by the bride’s father, HRH Igwe (Sir) Ben Emeka
As the ceremony progressed, the Igwe of Umueri, took to the stage to bless the union. He prayed for the couple’s happiness, prosperity and fertility. He advised them to always prioritize love, respect, and understanding in their marriage.
The highlight of the ceremony was the handing over of the bride to the groom, which was accompanied by thunderous applause and cheers from the crowd. The newlyweds were then showered with gifts and blessings from their families and friends.
As the ceremony came to a close, the Igwe of Umueri thanked the guests for their presence and support. He also expressed his gratitude to the bride’s family for giving their daughter’s hand in marriage to his son.
The traditional marriage ceremony was a beautiful display of Umueri’s rich cultural heritage, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter the couple.
