Anambra State governor, Prof. Charles Soludo has marked the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation with a message celebrating its remarkable growth trajectory while outlining ambitious plans for future development.
In his anniversary address, Soluxxbdo described Anambra as a “divine project” and “Light of the Nation,” emphasizing the state’s consistent ability to “punch above its weight” despite being one of Nigeria’s smallest states by landmass.
The governor traced the state’s leadership history from its first Military Administrator, Navy Captain Joseph Abulu, through to his immediate predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano, noting the continuous path of “remarkable growth” maintained across different administrations.
“Despite being one of the smallest states in Nigeria by landmass, we have produced some of the nation’s brightest minds, successful entrepreneurs, and visionary leaders,” Soludo stated, highlighting the state’s contributions spanning commercial enterprise, academic excellence, industrial innovation, and cultural heritage.
Central to Soludo’s message was his administration’s three-year vision, which he characterized as laying “a solid foundation” for transforming Anambra into “a liveable and prosperous smart-megacity – a homeland that will become a destination.”
The governor positioned this smart-megacity concept as an “irrevocable commitment,” suggesting it represents a long-term development strategy that extends beyond his current tenure.
Anambra State was carved out from the old Anambra State on August 27, 1991, during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida. Since its creation, the state has established itself as a major commercial and educational hub in southeastern Nigeria.
Soludo concluded his anniversary message by calling on citizens to “march forward together, with faith in God and confidence in our ability to build the prosperous homeland of our dreams,” while offering prayers for continued success for both the state and Nigeria as a whole.
The governor’s emphasis on the smart-megacity vision signals his administration’s focus on modernization and urban development as key pillars for the state’s next phase of growth.
