Awka, Nigeria – The Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Mr. Christian Aburime has fiercely rebutted allegations made by a journalist, Steve Osuji, accusing him of launching a baseless media attack aimed at tarnishing the governor’s growing reputation ahead of the November 2025 election.
In a strongly worded response titled “Soludo’s Shine and Osuji’s Dark Game”, Aburime described Osuji’s recent article, “Soludo-Obi Rivalry: Scurrying About Under Obi’s Shadow!” as malicious, misleading, and devoid of factual basis. He claimed the piece was a desperate attempt to fabricate a rivalry between Governor Soludo and former governor Peter Obi, suggesting that Soludo suffers from an “Obi Complex.””
Aburime refuted these claims, maintaining that “Governor Soludo, a globally respected economist and intellectual, has no reason to envy or attack Mr. Peter Obi.” He insisted that the trajectories of both leaders are unique and mutually exclusive and accused Osuji of stirring unnecessary controversy where none exists.
The statement further highlighted Soludo’s achievements across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, security, education, health, youth empowerment, and financial prudence. Among the achievements listed were the construction of over 754 kilometres of roads, free education, empowerment of 5,000 youths, hiring of over 8,000 teachers, and the transformation of notorious slums like Okpoko.
“Under Soludo’s watch, Anambra is witnessing the most far-reaching infrastructural and socioeconomic transformation in recent history,” Aburime stated, citing flagship projects like the Ekwulobia Flyover, Solution Fun City, and the long-awaited Government House complex.
He also defended the governor’s handling of public discourse, asserting that Soludo’s comments on national issues are legitimate contributions, not political attacks. Aburime accused Osuji of playing a “divisive propaganda game” and described him as a “failed journalist turned political attack dog,” citing his alleged controversial career and exit from major media houses and government service.
The statement questioned the credibility of Osuji’s alleged recent visit to Anambra, challenging his claims of worsening conditions in the state. “Let him visit Okpoko again and eat his words,” Aburime charged.
As the November governorship election approaches, the statement suggested that Osuji’s criticisms are part of a broader orchestrated campaign to undermine Governor Soludo’s growing popularity.
Despite the attacks, Aburime affirmed that Governor Soludo remains focused on governance and unshaken by what he termed “sponsored hatchet jobs.”
“Anambra is on the rise, and no amount of vitriol can dim the light of progress shining across the state,” he concluded.
