The residents of Pat-Clara close, off Commissioner’s quarters Road, Awka have cried out to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and the speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Tochukwu Udeze to urgently come to their aid to avoid imminent flooding.
Pat-Clara Close is named after late Rev. Patrick and Mrs. Clara Udeze, the parents of the Speaker.
The residents who are particularly calling on the Honourable Speaker to help them expedite action, raised the alarm following the blocking of the waterway/canal by a collapsed fence.
The fence collapsed during last night’s heavy rain and the residents are concerned that if urgent steps are not taken to clear the blocked canal, other parts of the area maybe submerged if it rains again.
One of the residents while expressing concerns said, “Before the fence collapsed into the canal, there had always been issue here. The waterway/canal runs from far through this our close, farther down to Commissioner’s quarters. So it is very vital for there to be free flow of rainwater. The little drainage constructed is an individual’s effort. It needs to be better than this.”
They want the waterway to be cleared and solid drainage system constructed.
