
It is double celebration for the Anam people in Anambra West Local Government Area, Anambra State and many others, as two of their prominent sons and friends, Prof. Alex Chinwuba Asigbo and Prof. Jaja Chukwuemeka Nwanegbo were elevated to higher positions at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Asigbo became the Director, School of General Studies, while Nwanegbo who is a Professor of Governance and Comparative Politics, became Head of Department, Political Science Department.
Former chairman, Anambra West, Hon. Simon Onuora while congratulating Asigbo said: “Ikpo Iyikpo, I congratulate you on this new milestone. I pray God to lift you even higher as you continue on the ladder of excellence.” Also speaking, IzuClems said: “To whom the cap fits!!!! Congratulations, prof. May the Good Lord grant you an eventful and record breaking tenure.” Ejike Anekwe, said: “A big congratulations Prof. Keep scaling new heights.
A Director at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Iwuchukwu Okeke, said: “Prof: ekenem. Congratulations! Forward ever and backward never. My sincere regards to your family. Well done.” On his part, Mmadubuonu John said, “Congratulations Prof. You are making us proud.”
Former Majority Leader, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Okoye, said: “Double congrats and happy new month prof. Okaodu: “Congratulations Prof for the new position. Those of us that passed under your tutelage know that you’re capable in all areas. Go and make us proud again. In his remarks, Blessing Samuel said, “The Great erudite and humble Professor of our time. Continue making us proud Oka-Mmuta Alex Chinweuba Asigbo. Anam nweli Mmadu.”
Earlier, Asigbo served as Dean, Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka between October, 2012 to October 2014), when he was appointed, Director, Centre for Arts, Culture and Humanities. He was also the National Social Secretary, Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA) (2001-2006); National Secretary, SONTA (2006-2011); Financial Secretary, SONTA (2011-2013). He is also the National Public Relations Officer, Society of Non-Fiction Authors of Nigeria, (SONFAN). He is also a National Vice President of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), and was inducted into the SONTA Hall of Fame with a Life Time Achievement Award (HSONTA 2011).
He was the South-East Zonal Coordinator for Abuja Carnival from 2009 to 2011, as well as a Member of the Anambra State Central Planning Committee on Mmechi Aro Anambra (Anambra Home Coming Festival 2010). He is also the National Secretary of the Nigerian Sector of the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC), as well as the 1st National Vice President, SONTA (2013-2017). He was elected 9th President of SONTA in November, 2017.
