Senior political figures from Anambra East and West constituencies, will this Saturday, August 30, 2025, gather at Umudora Okpala Ukwu Anam as Dr. Bobmanuel Okonmah hosts members and stakeholders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ezi Anam ward.
The event will take place at Umuagu Village Square in Umudora as a continuation of the Otite Anam New Yam Festival celebrations.
Three prominent persons among the several dignitaries expected to attend are Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs; Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe, former House of Representatives member for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency; and Hon. Fidelis Nnazor, Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area.
“Dr. Okonmah, Chief Nwabunwanne and I are like triplets and will always support any good cause embarked upon by any of us,” said Chief Obidigwe in pre-event briefing.
The gathering serves dual purposes, which are celebrating traditional harvest festivities while demonstrating high-level party support for Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election campaign. APGA has governed Anambra State since 2006, with Soludo winning decisively in 2021 with 61.9% of the vote.
Dr. Okonmah, the founder and president of Akalaka Foundation, is recognized for his philanthropic works, supporting vulnerable populations and widows across Anambra West. Moreover, the foundation, while primarily targeting APGA members in the Ezi Anam ward, organizers intend to open the celebration to the general public and welcome new members into the party.
Meanwhile, the integration of political activities into the traditional New Yam Festival represents a contemporary adaptation of ancestral thanksgiving ceremonies, where cultural celebrations now serve as platforms for electoral strategy in this APGA stronghold. This convergence of culture and politics reflects the party’s grassroots approach as it prepares for the critical 2025 gubernatorial contest.
