Transition Committee chairman, Awka North LGA, Hon. ThankGod Anago, today flagged off a health initiative for rural dwellers across the ten communities in the LGA. The medical outreach is in conjunction with the National Youth Service Corps, Anambra State.
In her opening speech at the event held at the Primary Health Center, Mgbakwu, the Anambra State co-ordinator, NYSC, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma said the objective of the health initiative birthed in 2014 is to tackle health challenges prevalent in remote communities.

“The services cover health advocacy, diagnosis, prescription, treatments, check up, optical and referrals” she said.
“It is aimed at enhancing the accessibility of healthcare services as well as raises the quality of healthcare especially for people who may ordinarily not afford quality healthcare thereby reducing mortality rate in rural areas.”
She said the operators move from community to community on quarterly basis. But the frequency is usually determined by invitation of the leaders in such areas. She however, solicited materials and financial support of individuals, corporate bodies, religious organisations, philanthropists, council chairmen and other stakeholders in various communities.

Speaking to the press, the President General, Mgbakwu, Hon. Chukwu Basil Nwokeoma said the initiative has created alot of awareness regarding health challenges. He said that apart from the drugs and other medical services offered, the programme has become an eye opener on why people must take their health issues, seriously.
He is all praises for NYSC and Governor Charles Soludo. “I want to assure Governor Soludo that he will get 98% of votes in not Mgbakwu in particular but the whole of Awka North in general in next year’s election. He is the first governor to create the atmosphere for this kind of initiative that we are witnessing and I commend him for doing a good job in the whole of Anambra State.”

Earlier in his remarks, the TC chairman, Hon. Anago called on the people to sustain their support and prayers for Governor Soludo. He said the governor is determined to fulfil his campaign promises which is to bring democracy dividends to the doorsteps of Anambra people. “There are alot still in the pipeline. Therefore, I urge you not to relent in your support for the governor” he said.
