The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs Victoria Ani has advised prospective corps members deployed for national service to avoid night journey.
Ani who gave the advice in Akure on Wednesday, said that over 1,600 prospective corps members were expected to converge on the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko for the three weeks orientation.
Ani said that the management of the scheme in all its formations nationwide, had embarked on aggressive sensitisation and advocacy against night journey. She said that NYSC value the lives of corps members more than anything and placed premium on their security and welfare.

“I wish to reiterate the commitment of NYSC management about the security and welfare of members of the corps. To this end, the scheme is appealing to parents, guardians and road unions to discourage our vibrant youths mobilised for national service from travelling after 6 p.m. as we have longer night than day.

“I need to emphasise the fact that this life-saving information is not meant for only the prospective corps members, it is equally to all the serving corps members.
“I want to let you know that we have carried out sensitisation through the Local Government Inspectors at their respective council areas,” she said.

Ani said managers of the scheme in the state had visited road unions, and charged them to sanction their members who embarked on needless night journeys. She said the scheme was ready to host prospective corps members and had visited all security agencies in the state and paramilitary organisations to beef up security on all roads leading to Ikare-Akoko. Ani, who assured the media of her support, urged them to cross-check facts with NYSC before publication.
The three weeks orientation course programme will hold between Wednesday, Nov. 1 and Nov.21.
