Following the tension being generated by Ejiovo Albert’s declaration to represent Anambra West Constituency at the State House of Assembly on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders, his sponsors and supporters are planning to go into alliance with an alternative platform.
While addressing journalists after an extensive meeting with Ejiovo in Asaba immediately after his declaration went viral on Wednesday, the group said their ultimate goal is winning the House of Assembly seat, the platform notwithstanding. They complained that many of the known aspirants have political backlogs that will not enable them to perform and Anambra West people are tired of such people, adding that most of the aspirants, in one way or the other, had been tested but failed woefully.
In their opinion, what the people want is someone who will deliver democracy dividends to them and not making empty promises. They argued that Prof. Charles Soludo did not win the governorship seat because of APGA but his personality, pedigree and integrity.
They stated that their ultimate focus now is to finally get Ejiovo’s name on the ballot sheet, the platform notwithstanding and the rest will be history.
“Once we have his name on the INEC ballot sheet, the work is half done. His array of sponsors, supporters and stakeholders working behind the scene who don’t have trust in the aspirants of their various political parties, will surely deliver him at the final polls”, their spokesperson told journalists.
Continuing, he said, “It is only Ejiovo who has not been smeared with the selfish spirit and bad image following most politicians in Anambra West and that will surely work to his advantage at the general polls.
“Political parties are mere vehicles to participate in an election because it is a Constitutional requirement, especially in Nigeria where the parties do not have clearly defined political ideologies like in America, Britain and other developed nations of the world.
“In Anambra West, after the primaries, emphasis and major campaign issues will be on the capacity and merit of the individual contestants and we will ensure that media consultants and public relations experts working with us will sell Ejiovo’s message to Anambra West people. We are ready to fight them Kobo for Kobo, million to millions. The system must change. You cannot continue to play with the destiny of a people.
Moreover, he said, “People are tired of promises. So people who are investing their time and resources want evident results. The final voting is a secret ballot system, so it is not everyone who openly claims to support you that will eventually vote for you. Also, after the primaries there will be disappointments, quarrels and bad blood, amongst the parties. Aggrieved members will automatically work for the opponents.
“We urge Ejiovo not to worry about the platform, we are working out an arrangement that will enable him scale through the primaries and eventually win at the general polls.”
In their opinion, considering the caliber of the people sponsoring Ejiovo and the overwhelming support he is getting from the youths, other contestants are in for heavy rude shock as nothing will stop him from winning the seat.
Commenting on the meeting, the aspirant, Ejiovo Albert said, he is a staunch PDP member and has a lot of respect for party loyalty and supremacy, adding that he will always accept and abide with a transparent and democratic process of electing a flag bearer. But must never compromise or accept any arrangement that override his major interest to better the lives of his people.
“I respect party supremacy and will always be loyal. But I must never allow party politics to override the greater public interest and service to my people, which motivated me to go into politics, he said.
