Awka, Anambra State, January 18, 2025

In a landmark event aimed at addressing the security challenges facing Anambra State, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo today launched “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” and signed the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 into effect. The initiatives, described as transformative, underscore the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state while creating an environment conducive to peace and prosperity.

The event, held at Dora Akunyili International Conference Centre in Awka, was attended by prominent figures, including members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and security commanders. It was a day filled with optimism and resolve as the state rallied behind the Governor’s vision for a safer Anambra.

Operation Udo Ga-Achi, translating to “Peace Will Reign,” is a comprehensive special security intervention designed to tackle the multifaceted threats facing the state. Governor Soludo emphasized that the operation is not merely a symbolic gesture but a robust initiative combining technology, personnel, and community collaboration to address crime and instability. Earlier in the day, he inspected and commissioned an array of patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and surveillance equipment that would be deployed under the operation. The governor noted that these resources would significantly enhance the capacity of security personnel to respond swiftly to threats and maintain law and order.

The Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, signed into law during the event, provides a legal framework to strengthen the state’s security infrastructure. Governor Soludo highlighted its critical provisions, which include the establishment of a State Security Advisory Council and a Homeland Security Agency to coordinate all security efforts in the state. He explained that the law empowers community-based policing, intelligence gathering, and the use of modern surveillance technology to monitor criminal activities. It also prescribes strict penalties for crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms, signalling a zero-tolerance stance on criminality.

During his address, Governor Soludo reflected on the unique security challenges facing Anambra State, particularly the rise of criminal gangs operating under the guise of separatist agitation. He described how these groups, often masquerading as political or ideological movements, have perpetrated violence, disrupted peace, and threatened livelihoods. Drawing from personal experience, he recounted how his own father was abducted in 2009, underscoring the long-standing and evolving nature of insecurity in the region.

He acknowledged the valiant efforts of the Anambra State Vigilante Group and other security agencies that have worked tirelessly to maintain order. Stressing the importance of collaboration, the governor called on Ndi Anambra to support security agencies, report suspicious activities, and refrain from providing any form of cover for criminal elements. He emphasized that the fight against insecurity is not the responsibility of the government alone but requires collective action from every resident.

As part of the day’s activities, the governor also inaugurated the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, reiterating the essential role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace at the grassroots level. He urged the traditional rulers to work closely with local communities and security agencies to identify and address potential threats before they escalate.

Governor Soludo expressed gratitude to the State House of Assembly for their diligent efforts in passing the Homeland Security Law. He described it as a collaborative achievement that demonstrates the shared commitment of the government and lawmakers to protect Anambra’s citizens. He also extended his appreciation to the families of fallen security personnel, pledging continued support and assuring them that their loved ones’ sacrifices would not be in vain.

In his closing remarks, Governor Soludo called on Ndi Anambra to reflect on the values of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism embodied by those who have given their lives for the state’s peace and stability. He urged everyone to embody these values in their daily lives and to unite in building a brighter and more secure future for generations to come.

The event was a resounding call to action and a testament to the administration’s unwavering resolve to tackle insecurity head-on. With the launch of Operation Udo Ga-Achi and the enactment of the Homeland Security Law 2025, Anambra State is charting a new course in its quest for safety and development.

“May Anambra continue to win,” the governor concluded, as the audience rose to their feet in applause, united in their commitment to the success of these historic initiatives.
