The Anambra State Executive Council, at its meeting on Tuesday, approved the electrification of Iyiora Anam in Anambra West. The Council endorsed the release of N476,326,657.37 (four hundred and seventy-six million, three hundred and twenty-six thousand, six hundred and fifty-seven naira, thirty-seven kobo) for the extension of electricity to the Iyiora Anam community and the Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital, Aguleri.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, also assured that urgent attention would be given to the federal road leading to Umuenwelum, the state roads in Inoma and Iyiora Anam, as well as the route connecting Oroma-Etiti, Umudora and Umuikwu Anam to Onono and further to Ukwu-Ubili. These projects are intended to enhance connectivity and ease transportation difficulties across Anambra West Local Government Area.
Before the 8 November election, Commissioner Nwabunwanne went on inspection of a road project being handled by New Idea Construction Company Limited. It involves earthworks and piling stretching from Umueze Anam through Oroma-Etiti to Umuenwelum Anam, constructed to a 300 mm thickness specification.
The intervention became necessary as a result of the poor condition of the federal road. During his inspection, Commissioner Nwabunwanne acknowledged the discomfort experienced by residents and assured them that Governor Charles Soludo treated their concerns with utmost seriousness and ordered decisive action.
He further highlighted previous interventions—his personal involvement in 2022 and the subsequent efforts of the Soludo administration in 2023, 2024 and 2025—as proof of sustained commitment to the Anambra West area.
This latest initiative is consistent with wider efforts by the Anambra State Government across communities, aimed at building and rehabilitating roads and other critical infrastructure to foster socio-economic growth.
