The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has celebrated the state’s impressive performance in the National Primary Health Challenge, where it emerged as the winner in the South East and the best national champion in Nigeria. This remarkable achievement earned the state a combined sum of $1.2 million in the two categories.
According to a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the 38th ANSEC meeting held at the Council chambers in Awka, also considered and approved several key projects aimed at expanding and deepening the state’s infrastructure revolution.
Security and Infrastructure Development
The council favourably considered and approved some aspects of the new security intervention, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, designed to root out insecurity in Anambra. This move is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and joyous Christmas celebration in the state.
In addition, the council approved contracts for several key projects, including:
– Rehabilitation of Eze Uzu Junction Agu-Awka*: ₦214,006,328.51 was awarded to Muterbonch & Co Nig Ltd for the rehabilitation of Eze Uzu Junction Agu-Awka and the front of the ANSIEC Office to Arroma Junction along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
– Proposed Completion of the Asphalt Wearing Course*: ₦1,650,000,000.00 was awarded to IDC Construction Limited for the proposed completion of the asphalt wearing course of the access road of the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri.
– Development of 624 Open Stalls: ₦577,000,000.00 was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction for the development of 624 open stalls within the Modern Bus Terminal in Ekwulobia.
Improving the Ease of Doing Business
The council also considered and approved the report of the consultative meetings between relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, and the private sector on the Anambra State Action on Business Enabling Reform (SABER) programme. The report showed that Anambra State ranked number one in South Nigeria and seventh in Nigeria in the last annual peer review.
