In a move that has been hailed as a demonstration of his commitment to empowering party loyalists and strengthening the grassroots structure of the party, the Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, Sir Ifeanyichukwu Chinweze, has begun paying monthly stipends to no fewer than 64 party officers in the area.
The development, which was officially confirmed during a documentation exercise at the Local Government Secretariat in Otuocha on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, is a fulfillment of Mayor Chinweze’s campaign promise to support party officers at the grassroots level.
According to Mayor Chinweze, the initiative is aimed at bolstering the contributions of party officers to party activities and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure. “I made this promise during the campaign, and I am here to fulfill it,” Mayor Chinweze affirmed. “All of you who serve as principal officers of our great party will continue to receive this support until the end of my administration.”
The beneficiaries of the stipends comprise 64 individuals, including four principal officers from each of the 15 political wards in Anambra East Local Government Area, as well as those at the local government level. The stipends are directly funded by the Mayor’s office.
