The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief tonycollins Nwabunwanne, on Saturday, October 6, together with his team, conducted a peaceful, free and fair town-union-executive election for Urum community in Awka North LGA, Anambra State.
The election which started with a thorough accreditation was concluded joyfully with undisputed final results that were accepted by not only those who won but also those who lost.
“It was a thing of joy to witness an undisputed peaceful election” an Urum stakeholder told multichannels newspaper. “At last, we hope to collectively toe the part of progress.”
The most keenly contested position of the President General was won by Sir Felix Godwin Oranye. In his brief acceptance speech, the new PG urged everyone to come on board to work with him, concluding that there was no victor, no vanquished.
In his advice to the new executive, Chief Nwabunwanne urged the winners to be magnanimous in victory and those who lost to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship. He reminded them thst there would still be another day because it is God Almighty that makes kings. He implored all the contestants to place the interest of the community above every other interest.
Chief Nwabunwanne applauded all the Ministry’s staff, the community members and all the security agencies and personnel who contributed to the success of the election.
Also speaking, the newly elected Mayor of Awka North, Hon. ThankGod Anagor told the winners to take seriously the trust placed on them by their people who had shown how much the community believed in their capacity to give them the right leadership.
“For me, this is a welcome development for the good people of Urum Community and the entirety of Awka North LGA” Anagor said.
“In Awka North, my leadership will continue to provide the enabling environment for smooth running of town union administrations across communities in our council area.”
