Governor Charles Soludo’s transformative governance approach is generating significant political momentum across Anambra State, with opposition party members in Anambra West Local Government Area preparing for a major defection ceremony to join the ruling party.

The highly anticipated defection ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, will see the Anambra West LGA Chapter of Stella Odua’s Political Movement officially cross over to support Governor Soludo’s administration. The event, set to take place at the Anglican Church premises behind Ajandu Hall, Umueze Anam, will commence at 10:00 AM.

Leading the defection are Prince Nnamdi Onyeka (Ozo) from Ezi Anam and Ekene Ogugua from Oroma Etiti Anam, both prominent political figures in the local government area. Their decision to switch allegiance reportedly stems from their appreciation of Governor Soludo’s developmental strides and their desire to encourage continued progress in the state.

Political observers note that this mass defection reflects a broader trend across Anambra State, where Governor Soludo’s performance in key sectors including infrastructure development, security, and economic transformation has been winning over critics and opposition members.

The LGA Party Chairman, Mr. Romanus Egwuatu, who issued the invitation, emphasized the significance of the ceremony in demonstrating grassroots support for the governor’s policies and programs. The defection is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s position in Anambra West, traditionally considered a politically competitive local government area.

Sources close to the defecting group indicate that Governor Soludo’s hands-on approach to governance, particularly his focus on rural development and youth empowerment, has resonated strongly with community leaders and stakeholders in the area.

The ceremony is expected to attract party faithful, community leaders and political stakeholders from across the local government area and beyond, signalling what many describe as a vote of confidence in the current administration’s direction.

This development comes as Governor Soludo continues to implement his campaign promises, with visible improvements in infrastructure, educational, health, and economic activities across the state, generating positive responses from various quarters.

The defection ceremony represents a significant political boost for the governor as he continues to build broader support for his administration’s developmental agenda across all local government areas in Anambra State.
