Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons on their historic win of the 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The team trashed Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic comeback.
“The Super Falcons’ triumph has been a result of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of every player and the entire coaching staff,” Soludo said in a statement released on Sunday by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.
“The unforgettable comeback win, their 10th WAFCON title, also once again confirms the immense potential within Nigerian sports” Soludo stated.
The victory marks Nigeria’s continued dominance in African women’s football, with the team demonstrating characteristic fighting spirit to overturn a deficit against a determined Moroccan side playing before home supporters.
“As Anambra State has always been a strong advocate for sports development and gender equality, Governor Soludo is particularly delighted to see the Super Falcons continue to break barriers and achieve greatness on the international stage,” said Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor.
The championship extends Nigeria’s record as the most successful nation in WAFCON history. Morocco was seeking their first continental title but fell short despite the advantage of playing on home soil.
Soludo emphasized the inspirational value of the victory for young Nigerian athletes, particularly women. “This serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across the country, particularly our young women,” he stated.
The governor said he joins federal authorities, the Nigeria Football Federation, and citizens nationwide in celebrating the achievement. “The Governor joins the Federal Government, the Nigeria Football Federation, and all Nigerians in celebrating this remarkable achievement and looks forward to even greater successes from the Super Falcons in future competitions,” Aburime said.
The triumph reinforces Nigeria’s status as the premier women’s football nation on the African continent and provides momentum heading into future international competitions.
