Two Anambra State Commissioners, Chief TonyCollins Nwabunwanne (Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs) and Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka (Commissioner for Power and Water Resources), Friday, joined several others on a condolence visit to the family of the late Barrister Ifeanyi Rolex Iloakasia, President General of Aguleri Community, who was brutally murdered by unknown gunmen.
The commissioners expressed profound sadness over the loss of the promising young lawyer and community leader, describing his death as a tragic loss to both Aguleri community and Anambra State at large. During the visit, the commissioners asked the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss and assured them of the state government’s support during this difficult period.
The condolence visit comes months after Barrister Ifeanyi Rolex Iloakasia, who served as the President General of Aguleri Community in Anambra East Local Government Area, was shot dead by suspected gunmen in May 2025. The attack occurred along the Agulu-Nanka boundary in Anaocha Local Government Area, shortly after the lawyer had secured a court victory at the Ekwulobia High Court. The deceased lawyer was attacked alongside his client, with both men losing their lives in the ambush.
Following the tragic incident, the Aguleri community was thrown into mourning while community members and diaspora groups expressed outrage over the senseless killing. Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo had earlier condemned the murder, describing it as an attack on the peace and security of Anambra State. The governor vowed to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to book.
Similarly, the Aguleri Diaspora Organisation Worldwide (ADOW) has demanded justice for their murdered President General, expressing grief, shock, and outrage over the assassination. Community leaders had described Barrister Iloakasia as a fearless, energetic, and tireless leader who served as a bridge builder and peacemaker in Aguleri and the entire Omambala area.
The lawyer’s death represents a significant loss to the legal profession and community leadership in Anambra State, while also adding to growing concerns about insecurity in the Southeast region, particularly the targeting of community leaders and professionals.
