The Anambra State Government has issued a stern warning to town criers and individuals spreading false information about the newly enacted Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025. The government expressed concern over deliberate misrepresentations of the law, which have the potential to incite fear and confusion among citizens.

Recent reports revealed that some town criers have been misleading the public with fabricated claims that the law criminalizes wearing dreadlocks, sagging trousers, or even women not wearing undergarments. The government has categorically dismissed these statements, emphasizing that the new law has no provisions regulating dress codes or personal appearance.

According to a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the dissemination of such falsehoods is now considered an act of sabotage against the state’s security efforts. The Agunechemba security initiative and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, established under the law, are specifically aimed at combating crime, eliminating dangerous cult activities, and eradicating criminal practices facilitated by certain native doctors who manufacture harmful charms used by criminals.

To prevent further misinformation, the government has now directed that all town criers must consult their community Presidents-General before making public announcements. Any misrepresentation of the law by town criers will hold the Presidents-General accountable. In cases of uncertainty, the Presidents-General are advised to seek clarification from the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor (SPAD) on Community Security.

The government urges all community leaders to take this directive seriously to avoid further confusion and ensure that the public receives accurate information about the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
