Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has launched a transformative security framework designed to address Anambra State’s unique and complex security challenges. With the unveiling of the Homeland Security Law 2025, the Agunechemba vigilante squad, and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, the governor has taken bold steps to create a safer, more secure environment for the people of Anambra.

This comprehensive strategy is rooted in a clear understanding of the state’s vulnerabilities. Anambra’s economic vibrancy has made it an attractive target for organized crime, with data showing that 70% of criminals arrested in the state are non-residents. Recognizing this, Governor Soludo has crafted a security approach that goes beyond traditional methods, focusing on prevention, community involvement, and the use of advanced technology.

Central to the strategy is the modernization of security infrastructure. The deployment of AI-powered surveillance cameras, advanced tracking systems, and a cutting-edge command-and-control center reflects the governor’s commitment to leveraging technology to outsmart criminal elements. These tools are designed to enhance real-time monitoring, enable rapid response, and strengthen crime prevention efforts across the state.

Governor Soludo’s plan also includes a groundbreaking incentive system aimed at encouraging proactive policing and citizen participation. Security operatives in high-risk areas now stand to earn a N10 million monthly bonus if they maintain a zero-violence record, while whistleblowers can receive up to N5 million for providing actionable intelligence. These measures are designed to promote accountability and foster collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.

The creation of the Agunechemba vigilante system highlights the importance of community engagement in the governor’s security vision. This hybrid model combines grassroots security efforts with state-level oversight, ensuring that every community is actively involved in safeguarding its people. By empowering local vigilantes and providing them with the necessary support, the administration is fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility in crime prevention.

Governor Soludo’s approach also recognizes the need to address the root causes of insecurity. His administration has embarked on a campaign to combat the glorification of wealth acquired through illegitimate means, while also tackling cultism and drug trafficking. Rehabilitation programs are being rolled out to provide alternative paths for those willing to reform, and the recently announced amnesty program, set to end on February 28, 2025, offers criminals an opportunity to abandon their activities and reintegrate into society.

Legal reforms have also been introduced to strengthen the fight against crime. New laws targeting drug-related offenses, including property forfeiture for offenders, add a strong deterrent to the administration’s efforts. With over 200 specialized vehicles and 2,000 security operatives deployed, the state is demonstrating its commitment to sustaining the momentum of this new initiative.

Governor Soludo has emphasized that security is a shared responsibility and has called on Ndi Anambra to work hand-in-hand with the government to ensure the success of these measures. Collaboration with neighboring states is also being prioritized, as the administration seeks to address the regional and cross-border nature of many criminal activities.

This bold and innovative security framework has already begun to yield results, with reports of significant arrests and disruptions of criminal networks. Governor Soludo’s vision offers a template for other states grappling with similar challenges, proving that a comprehensive, technologically driven, and community-oriented approach can create a safer society. As the governor has reiterated, Anambra is prepared to face these challenges head-on and emerge victorious in its quest for lasting peace and security.
