Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has sounded the alarm on insecurity in the state, calling for a mass mobilization of ndị Anambra to join forces against this growing threat.
During a statewide broadcast from the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Soludo emphasized that security, law, and order are the cornerstones of his administration’s vision. He expressed his unwavering commitment to fighting criminality head-on. The governor said that the insecurity situation in the in Anambra State has its peculiarities different from elsewhere. He said it is like a well orchestrated war situation whereby commanders are regularly deployed, stating that 70% of the criminals are not Anambra natives.
Soludo reflected on the challenging security landscape his government inherited, where eight local government areas were under siege. However, through a swift and decisive response, these areas were successfully liberated.
The governor reaffirmed that life is sacred and vowed to treat every kidnapping case with the utmost seriousness. He also announced the launch of a comprehensive security initiative by January 2025, pledging to triple efforts to tackle the security situation and restore peace to the state.
Governor Soludo said that security vehicles and other logistics, which would not be made public, have been made available and would be put to use soonest. He explained that the state would adopt kinetic and none kinetic approaches in its fight against insecurity. He, therefore, offered amnesty to criminals until February 2025 to surrender or face stiffer consequences thereafter.
He said that when the security operatives start operations, there maybe inconveniences like roadblocks and stop-and-search for the main time and pleaded with the general public to bear it for the main time as it would not be for too long. He said majors would be put in place so that it would not be an avenue to start extortion of the public.
