Sometime in 2023, the former member who represented Anambra East/West Federal Constituency and a prominent indigene of Enugu Otu, Aguleri, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, broke down in tears and wept, when the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo visited his community in Anambra East LGA.
Obidigwe, had in a heart-wrenching display of helplessness, begged the governor to tar the road leading to his village; something someone from the zone could not do for his people in eight years. He narrated how the deplorable state of the road had been a perennial problem, causing immense hardship for the villagers, especially during rainy season.
As Obidigwe stood before Governor Soludo, he couldn’t hold back his emotions. Tears streamed down his face as he narrated the struggles the villagers face daily due to the poor road condition. He spoke of the endless hours spent navigating through potholes and muddy paths, the loss of businesses due to the inability to transport goods, and the risks to life and limb.
Governor Soludo, visibly moved by Obidigwe’s plea, promised to look into the matter urgently. He acknowledged the importance of good infrastructure in boosting economic growth and improving the quality of life. The governor assured Obidigwe that his administration would do everything possible to tar the road and bring relief to the people of Enugu Otu, Aguleri.
As news of the governor’s promise spread, the villagers erupted in joy. They saw this as a beacon of hope, a sign that their struggles had not gone unnoticed. For Obidigwe, the governor’s response was a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of having leaders who truly care about the welfare of their people.
Few days ago, Governor Soludo along with his executive approved several projects including the construction of Aguleri Uno to Aguleri Otu Road. It was awarded to Tamad Construction at the sum of N8.3 billion. It will be completed in 18 months from the date of mobilisation.
Also approved is the Nteje-Otuocha Road which was awarded to MacDamanox Construction Company at the sum of N668,666,001.11.
The rehabilitation of the 19.1 km Awkuzu-Igbariam-Anaku Link Road. It was awarded to Retro Construction Company Ltd. at the sum of N6,175,493,245.73 to be completed in 18 months.
