The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, today called on Anambra West people to demonstrate their support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo by voting All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates in the forthcoming local government election.

Nwabunwanne said that Governor Soludo is determined to develop Anambra West to be at par with other parts of the state and voting his candidates would ensure that developments get to the grassroots. He made the call while speaking at a townhall meeting organised by Anam People’s Assembly at Umueze Anam.

While responding to complaints raised by some stakeholders that they were not consulted before APGA chose an Igala indigene as their candidate for the election, Nwabunwanne apologised for the oversight. He said their decision was in line with the directive of the governor and the leaders of the party.

He however said that other political parties should have called for the meeting earlier since the campaign started. Most importantly, he corrected the notion that candidates were imposed on them. According to him, even at the consultation level, Anam people could not agree on a candidate before APGA went for primaries where Hon. Fidelis Nnazor and Mrs Edith Ndive emerged as chairmanship and deputy chairmanship candidates, respectively.

He said that even when petition was written, Governor Soludo said there was need to spread political positions across the local government and not concentrate all of them at a particular area. He pointed out the need to always make provision of political positions for ndi Igala, otherwise, God will not forgive ndi Anam for such marginalisation.

He also called for a rallying point that will be known as “Anam Focus” to coordinate developmental activities in Anam, stating that Anam political office holders should be held accountable for not representing actively or attracting enough projects to the area.

Nwabunwanne therefore advised APA to always call for consistent townhall meeting with political office holders to keep them on their toes.

In his speech, the national chairman of APA, Chief Alex Okonkwo called on Anam political office holders to represent their constituencies properly and give regular updates of their stewardship. He warned that henceforth, political office holders who are not performing well may be recalled. He also said that in no distant time, the apex body in Anam and that of the Olumbanasa will cooperate for the benefits of Anambra West LGA.
