A group, Women Initiative For Greater Anambra (WIGA), in collaboration with Anambra State Government has flagged off 2024 farming season in Idemili South LGA.

The group popularly known as Umu nwanyi Soludo ably led by the convener, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, Iyom Ife-Abata while restating their “Victory is assured” slogan, noted that “without farming, there will be no nation.”

In her opening speech, the acting Head of Department, Idemili South LGA, Mrs Adaora Ejidike said that women are the main custodians of knowledge on crop varieties. She said that Nigerian women make up about 70% of the country’s agricultural workforce and also contribute same percentage on the country’s food production thereby enhancing the economy of the nation.

She said, “Women in Agriculture help in reduction of poverty in the society. Agricultural empowerment programme focused on women will significantly improve the lives of women economically and also the well being of individuals, families and communities.”

She applauded Hon. Amaka Obi, also called the digital chairman and naked wire, for deeming it necessary to organise such an event which is one of its kind in the 21 LGAs of the state.

In her speech, the National Coordinator, WIGA, Lady Chinwe Mgbajiaka said Hon. Obi is not only a visionary leader but a pace-setter
with good foresight. She said that empowering the grassroot people especially the women is very vital and strategic as it touches every aspect of the nation. She encouraged the WIGA members to canvass for more members so they can benefit. “The women, no doubt, are the pillars of the society” she said.

Hon. Obi in her speech gave all the glory to God Almighty stating that she is only taking a queue from the first lady of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo because she shows high level of interest in the welfare of the family. She applauded all the LGA coordinators, executive for their steadfastness in ensuring that Governor Soludo is returned in 2025 to complete his Solution Agenda.

“The essence is to espouse on the ideas originated by her excellency, Mrs Nonye Soludo. She wants to ensure that everyone takes to farming to ensure food abundance for everyone. Everything I and my team do, is because the Solution Governor and his family are interested in giving Anambrarians a better life and assured future” she noted.

Chief of Protocol and deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye (Glamour) who represented Governor Soludo and performed cassava planting said that there are several benefits that come from farming including good health. He urged the women to see the event as more than mere one.
