Quarter finalists emerge in ongoing Nnewi South ‘Chairman Challenge Cup’

Quarter finalists have emerged in the ongoing debate competition of all the secondary schools in Nnewi South Local Government Area (LGA) organized by the Transition Committee Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Ikenna Aniagboso (MAYOR).

The semi finals and final of the debate competition are coming up on Friday the 10th May 2024.

To emerge quarterfinalists, St. JohnBosco Unubi won the first position with 662 marks while Ukpor High School, Ukpor took second with 649 marks and the Community Secondary school, Azigbo emerged third with 433 marks.

Master Chukwudi Victor from Ukpor High School, Ukpor emerged the best speaker at the quarter finals of the CHAIRMAN’S CHALLENGE CUP, held on Friday, May 3, at the Government Technical College Utuh.

A statement signed by PRO/ Information Officer, Nwanneka Obiora noted that the programme which was aimed at enhancing the academic ability of the students and to produce solution providers for the future development of Anambra State and Nigeria, had eight schools that participated and deliberated on the topic “FREE EDUCATION ENHANCES STANDARD Of EDUCATION IN ANAMBRA”.

Addressing the students, the Desk Officer, English Language Teachers Association, Post Primary Schools Commission, Nnewi Zone, Mrs Clementina Achunike applauded the students for their wonderful performance and advised them to be mindful of their dressing and statements. She further shunned the use of abusive words during the debate, pointing out that they were all friends despite supporting opposing positions.

Also speaking, the adjudicators, Mrs Nnenna Ukpai-Okenwa and Mrs Nwafor Chinenye highlighted on the grammatical errors and advised the debaters to always take note of the styles and strategies in debate to improve on their performances.

The HOD, Education and Social Development Nnewi South, Mrs Ifeoma Chukwudolue expressed her happiness over the success of the programme and encouraged them to put more efforts in order to win the Chairman’s Challenge Cup next time.

The TC chairman said the competition is part of the Solution Agenda aimed at equipping the youngster for a better tomorrow.
