Transition Committee chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr. Onyemaobi Augustine Nonyelum has faulted a story alleging that a woman, her husband and maid were attacked, kidnapped and raped around Abba junction in Anambra State.
The story had alleged that an Ukwulu woman married to a Nawgu indigene, returned for her daughter’s marriage celebration and as they were driving through Abba junction, “they saw cows crossing the road and what followed was a quick attack and days of torture, rape and trauma.”
The story further alleged that they were released after her son-in-law paid a ransom of N15 million from the original N100 million demanded.
Faulting the story through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media & Directorate of Social Communications, Comrade J. B. C. Oraegbuna, the Dunukofia TC chairman, said, “there is no truth in this story. For years now, based on some historical and socio-cultural conditions I cannot outline here, Nawgu and Ukwulu communities don’t get married to each other.
“So there is no Ukwulu person married to Nawgu that is conspicuous to us and even if it is so, it must have been recently. So this unknown person saying she is from Ukwulu married to a Nawgu indigene and her daughter had grown into marriage age, is both suspicious and being economical with the truth.”
The TC chairman said the story lacks logic and merit in the first place and reeks of political sabotage.
He asked: “To start with, who is this woman? What is her name, the name of her maid and husband?
“This could be an attempted propaganda to discredit the efforts of the Solution Government of Governor Soludo and Dunukofia Local Government Area in particular.”
He noted that while security problem is a national issue that should be given a priority by any serious government, his administration at the LGA level is also augmenting the efforts of the Solution governor to ensure the security of lives and property in the communities as well as making them peaceful, liveable and prosperous homeland.
“Therefore, the general public are advised to totally disregard the fake story and see it as one of those things from political oppositions and merchants who are always ready to cause mischief.”
