The Transition Committee chairman, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, Dr. Anselm C. Onuorah,
Friday, participated in a critical meeting aimed at addressing the annual flooding in the region.

The meeting, held in Awka was facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). It brought together local government leaders, community representatives, and crucial partners like the World Bank.

The gathering served as a platform to evaluate the devastating consequences of past floods, specifically the most recent event that claimed six lives and destroyed over a hundred properties, displacing numerous residents. This shared understanding of the human and material cost fueled the urgent need for proactive solutions. Beyond assessing the past, the meeting transitioned to future-oriented discussions.

Dr. Onuorah, alongside his colleagues and stakeholders, actively engaged in exploring strategies to enhance preparedness and response mechanisms for future flood incidents.

Collaboration with NEMA, SEMA, and the World Bank was emphasized as crucial to achieving this goal.

“Working together, we can mitigate risks, protect lives and livelihoods, and build more resilient communities,” Dr. Onuorah stated. “I am confident that the valuable insights and actionable plans generated from this meeting will pave the way for a more proactive approach to flood management.”
