The members of the Red Chambers of the 10th National Assembly have continued to receive bashing over their alleged receipt of N218m as “holiday enjoyment token”. Nigerians are angry that in spite the excruciating hardship hitting Nigerians, with many unable to feed and go to bed on empty stomach, those elected to represent them, receive millions of naira as “holiday token for enjoyment.”
The senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio had during the last day of extraordinary plenary to confirm ministerial nominees, announced that the clerk of the national assembly had sent to each senator “holiday token for their enjoyment.” Akpabio, however, later withdrew that statement after his colleagues frowned at it as exposing them to public ridicule. He then said, “I have sent prayers to your mailbox”.
An unconfirmed Twitter handle of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo State showed credit alert of N2 million received at exactly 11:44am on August 8, 2023.

Multichannels247, an online newspaper gathered from sources that preferred anonymity that the senators may have received N2m each which is said to be a normal allowance due to the National Assembly members.
