The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Umuoba Abegbu/Iyiora Ward in Anambra West Local Government Area held a vibrant endorsement rally for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid, with party stakeholders demonstrating strong unity ahead of the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election.
The event, which served as both an endorsement rally and a membership drive, welcomed over 60 new members from various political parties into the APGA fold, including Nwachukwu Christopher (D-Solicitor) and Daniel Obagha, signaling growing cross-party support for the incumbent governor.
Drawing significant government representation, the rally was led by Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne (Ife Anam), alongside APGA Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Chief Romanus Egwuatu, and Deputy Mayor, Anambra West, Hon. (Mrs) Edith Ndive. Other distinguished attendees included Chief Chris Okonkwo (Ugodinobi), Chief Joseph Anikpe (Ugoejiejemba), Chief Emma Anekwe (LG APGA Youth Leader), Hon. Ndubuisi Okonkwo (Councillor, Umuoba Abegbu/Iyiora Ward), Hon. Peter Okonkwo (Supervisor for Agriculture), Chief Jacob Udoba (Ebubedike), Chief Dan Ozoemena (Odenjiji), Chief Sunday Onuorah (Iyi), and Chief Augustine Chukwurah (Ikpe mali eziokwu).
The members of Ife Anam Adorable Ladies, a political support group, also attended.
In his address, Commissioner Nwabunwanne urged sustained support for Governor Soludo’s re-election, promising concrete benefits for the ward. He committed to providing official appointments for at least two individuals from the ward and ensuring their infrastructural needs receive government attention. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic importance of cross-party collaboration, noting that support at federal, state, and local government levels would ensure Anambra West achieves parity with other local governments in the state.
Extending his outreach beyond party lines, the Commissioner also met with Nzam ward stakeholders from various political affiliations, including Onowu White of the Labour Party, who was a House of Assembly candidate. This cross-party engagement reflects the administration’s strategy to build consensus around Soludo’s developmental agenda.
The Umuoba Abegbu/Iyiora endorsement adds momentum to a wave of support building across Anambra State for Soludo’s re-election. Governor Soludo won the APGA primary unopposed in April 2025, emerging as the party’s flagbearer for the November 8, 2025 governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed 16 candidates are vying for the gubernatorial position.
Building on this foundation, recent endorsements have come from various groups, including tricycle operators in May 2025 and Anambra Central stakeholders just days ago, reflecting what observers describe as broad-based support for the governor’s developmental agenda. The successful recruitment of members from opposition parties at the Umuoba Abegbu/Iyiora event suggests the governor’s appeal extends beyond traditional party lines.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne highlighted ongoing projects in Anambra West Local Government Area during his remarks, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to equitable development. His presence at the ward-level endorsement is particularly significant given his role as Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, positioning him as a key figure in the Soludo administration’s community engagement efforts.
The endorsement rally represents part of a broader grassroots mobilization strategy as APGA seeks to consolidate support across Anambra’s 21 local government areas. With party officials expressing optimism about their electoral prospects, the event underscores APGA’s confidence in retaining the governorship while demonstrating the party’s ability to attract cross-party support at the grassroots level ahead of November’s crucial election.
