Five outstanding local government mayors from Anambra State have been nominated for the highly esteemed Distinguished Local Government Chairmanship Merit Award, a national recognition celebrating excellence in grassroots governance.
The award, organized by RootsWatch Magazine, honors exceptional leadership across Nigeria’s 36 states, recognizing chairmen who have made significant strides in community development. Representing Anambra State in this year’s nominations are Hon. ThankGod Anago (Awka North), Hon. Fidelis Nnazor (Anambra West), Hon. (Barr.) Chinedu Ononiba (Njikoka), Hon. Echezona Anazodo (Nnewi North), and Hon. Emma Nweke (Oyi).
These mayors have distinguished themselves through transformative projects in critical sectors, including rural electrification, agriculture, potable water supply, healthcare, security, education, poverty alleviation, women empowerment, transportation, housing, and rural infrastructure development.
Across Anambra, their leadership has driven tangible progress—from the construction of durable road networks and the provision of clean water to healthcare advancements and initiatives empowering youth and women. Their efforts have significantly improved the quality of life in their respective local government areas, earning them this prestigious recognition.
To make the selection process inclusive, RootsWatch Magazine has opened voting to the general public. Residents who have witnessed the impact of these mayors firsthand are encouraged to participate by sending the mayor’s name, LGA, state, and category to 07031827725 or 07055076110.
The winners will be celebrated at an upcoming award ceremony, where top-performing local government administrators from across the country will be honored. With Anambra’s strong representation, the state once again proves its commitment to effective grassroots governance and sustainable development.
