Experienced journalist, Romanus Okoye has joined the media team of Hon. Peter Aniekwe, the Labour Party candidate for Anambra East/West House of Representatives seat.
Okoye who is a law graduate, reports for The Sun newspapers as well as multichannels247, an online newspaper. He is also a graduate of Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos where he made distinction and emerged the Overall Best Graduating student in 2014. Earlier, he attended the Institute of Management and Technology, (IMT), Enugu, where he studied Secretarial Administration in 1992.
Aside from journalism, Okoye is an experienced Graphics Artist and printer. Before joining The Sun on February 2, 2004, he worked in Switch Advertising Agency and Pace Printing Press, all in Lagos, as a graphic designer, respectively.
Hon. Aniekwe said he engaged Okoye to join his media team so he can bring his many years of media expertise and knowledge to his campaign, which is seen as the masses project and tagged “Together We Can.”
In his acceptance, Okoye said he would ensure along with other members of the media team, coordinated by Basil Okeke, that MacPee’s campaign remains issues based and not one laced with frivolous claims and promises.
According to him, facts check, in news reportage is sacrosanct and this is what separates professional media practitioners from others who write or share junks in the form of news because they have unfettered access to social media.
“Aside from being a professional media practitioner, I am from Anambra West” Okoye said. “I feel the pain of underdevelopment just like others. What we need to do in the campaign is to discuss how to solve our myriads of developmental challenges and give reasons we think a particular candidate will serve us better. This way, we will send the best candidate to speak on our behalf.
“It is all about us. We must get involved and can no longer stand aloof. Let us discuss the issues so that whoever eventually emerges the winner will know that we are fully aware of what is involved. I urge all and sundry to eschew all forms of bitterness and rancour as we go into the campaign proper, September 28 till the winner emerges in February 2023.
“It is extremely important that we focus our interactions on issues and issues alone. That is the best way, the best candidate will emerge at the end. I look forward to positive and professional media interactions. God help us” he concluded.
