The Labour Party candidate seeking to represent the Anambra East/West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Chief Peter Aniekwe (Macpee) outshined other aspirants, who on Saturday besieged the venue of the 2022 new yam festival of the traditional ruler of Umueri Ancient Kingdom, Igwe Ben Emeka, Oke-Ebo II.
From the moment of Macpee’s entrance to the arena of the event, where his stand was clearly marked out, Macpee was the cynosure of all eyes. This is despite the presence of several aspirants for different positions in the next year’s election, including the wife of former governor of Anambra State, Mrs Ebele Obiano, who is aspiring to represent Anambra North at the Senate. Mrs Obiano was there with her husband, Chief Willie Obiano.
The Masters of Ceremony could not sing the praises of Macpee, enough, assuring him that the whole of Anambra East and West are solidly behind him.
The highest point of his recognition was during the ceremonial procession of Igwe and his council of chiefs. The procession literally stopped at Macpee’s stand to accord him special recognition. Many observers could not miss the moment, insinuating that it may be a sign of endorsement.
As if that was not enough, the praises of “you are our own, you were generous with your personal wealth, you are man of the people, no one compares to you”, rented the air when Macpee and his numerous entourage moved from stand to stand while proceeding to pay homage to Igwe with a cow and other items. It was a joyful moment for Macpee and his supporters.
At the presentation of the gift, Igwe took time to pray for Macpee, saying that God Almighty would grant Macpee the desires of his heart.
While Mrs Obiano, Hon. Emeneke, and some other aspirants were at the event, Chief Tony Nwoye, the Labour Party candidate for Anambra North senatorial seat, the member presently representing Anambra East/West at the Green Chambers, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe and the former Majority Leader, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Okoye who are also aspiring for House of Representatives seat in 2023, were conspicuously absent.
